TRIPLE OVERTIME NAMES DISC GOLF CHAMPION

On Friday, July 31, the championship for disc golf took place.  Everyone showed up expecting a simple nine holes of disc golf but it turned into a fight to the bitter end with the first nine holes ending in a triple tie.  Those three men then went to the deadly 18th hole where the lake, trees, and Gemini road were all their enemies. Out of the first overtime Drew Benson and Mike Vene were tied again.  They played the 18th hole two more times in order for Drew to come out victorious as the new Disc Golf Champion for Intramural Sports.

BADMINTON DOUBLES PROVE TO BE TEAM EVENT

Bad Hitten Men dominated the Rec League during pool play after winning all but one of their pool play games. It was during the championship match, though, that they met their rival Knuckle Children. Winning the first game of that match by the skin of their teeth 15-14, they moved onto the second game with a vengeance winning 15-10.

As for the Comp League, Jai Xo entered the championship undefeated and was matched against the second placed team Wings. But Jai Xo was relentless and won both matches by at least ten points to acquire the Summer 20009 Badminton Doubles Championship title.

PHI DELT SCORES 7 IN LAST INNING

On a glorious Friday afternooon out at the IM softball field, Phi Delt took home the third annual Nickel Softball championship by defeating the Breindogs and We Miss Heidi in what will go down as the greatest Nickel softball game ever played. The fireworks would happen late as the Breindogs took what would look to be a commanding 6 run last inning lead on the heels of David Wilsnack's clutch two out GRAND SLAM. However, Phi Delt was able to show the heart of a champion and comeback and put together a 7 run inning of their own to win the game on a Scott Vogel line drive to left field to seal the deal by one run.

8 UNDER PAR AND OVER THE REST

On the scorching day of June 12th, 2009, 24 teams of 2 showed up at Deer Run to participate in a full day of Golf Scramble (click for team Totals). Still Got It hit their way to a championship T-Shirt, shooting a 63 which was 8 under par. Kevin Meere and Jonathan Berger squeezed out the win over Mark Faulkner and Phillip Jeffries of Two Guys One Score who shot a 67. Also obtaining a prized Intramural T-Shirt was Jordan Eppy with the Longest Drive and William Fitzpatrick with the Closest to the Pin.

LAST TO ARRIVE FIRST TO PLACE

After being the last to arrive at the bowling ally Friday February 27,2009 The Special Ops bowled their way to victory with a cumulative score of 2052. Jennifer MacLeod of the special Ops took the title of highest female bowler with a score of 148, but no one could come close to Sean Simpson who bowled a high score of 244 earning his spot as highest male bowler and IM Champion.

RIO PINAR SHOOT A RECORD LOW

The duo of Roger Frosio and Thomas Stampley made the Twin Rivers Golf Course look like their playground. Rio Pinar shot a record low 63 for a -9 on the day. "All of the conditions were favorable for a low scoring day. The fairways were fast and the greens were soft," as said by Ben Marcello, Tournament Director. The rest of the teams were unable to take the next step and sink the putts that they needed to in order to catch up. On the 10th hole Thomas Stampley drove the ball 312 yards, further than anyone else in the tournament. But the shot of the day came on the Par 3 Hole 12 when Justin Rizzo put the ball 6 feet from the pin. He eventually knocked in the put for birdie. [RESULTS]

QUARTERBACKS VIE FOR THE DETROIT LIONS ATTENTION

On Friday March 27th, UCF IM Sports held their own pro day for all the quarterbacks of Intramural Sports. 27 Qbs came out to test their skills against each other. Surprisingly no one won more than one event. The resident IM Sports Draft Analyst Zach Moncilovich said, "This could be one of the deepest quarterback classes in recent years. Many teams should be able to find a quarterback for the future in this years draft. This class has everything from big arms to quick feet to pinpoint accuracy." Bret Eiserman showed off his golden left arm by throwing the ball 63 yards. Harris Schley showcased his speed and agility by running completing the challenge course in a total of 3.00 seconds. When it came down to pure accuracy Matt Gowin and Matt Zarek had a showdown which was eventually won by the early-commit Matt Gowin. The women's class of quarterbacks was also full of talent. The highly touted talent of Kristina Valdes-Pages was highlighted in every event. Kristina made it look easy during the accuracy challenge. A bit of stumble during the obstacle course put her behind the quick feet of Kimberly Boberman. Krysteena Mallard put all of her might to launch her throw further than Kristina Valdes-Pages. TEAM VAN DE VELDE DOESN'T CHOKE UNDER PRESSURE

This year's Sports Trivia was one for the ages. All of the teams took a sports knowledge test to determine their seeding in the bracket. The three brackets were a challenge for each team. Team Van de Velde won the Big Head Bracket, The Winning Team won the Big Mouth Bracket and Acid Reflux emerged from the Loss of Hair Bracket. The three teams faced off in Championship Jeopardy. Van de Velde seemed to be a bottom feeder after the Jeopardy round with a total of 700 points while Acid Reflux and the Winning Team were tied at 2000. The Final Jeopardy question was sure to determine the winner. All of the teams wagered it all as the final category of NFL MVPs was revealed. Both Acid Reflux and The Winning Team were unable to remember who the last defensive player was to win the NFL MVP, but Van de Velde was. Of course it was the beast that was Lawrence Taylor. Congratulations to team Van de Velde.
