IM CHAMPIONS CLOAKED IN BASKETBALL In the inaugural UCF IM Summer Basketball Rec Championship, Dog Pack carried their weight to the final seconds. At the end of the first half they led Team Jordan 38 to 29. Mike Scanlar took the reigns for Dog Pack in the first half with 11 points, but Clay Woodburn and Ricardo Catala matched his intensity by having all 29 points for Team Jordan, with 16 and 13 respectively. With intensity brewing for both teams in the second half, Woodburn came up with 7 rebounds and 13 points to try and take control of the game for Team Jordan. Unfortunately, his tenacity wasn’t enough to stop Mike Scanlar’s 15 points for the Dogs and at the 5 minute mark the Dog Pack ran ahead of Team Jordan, winning 73 to 53. Directly after the Rec game, was the almighty Comp Summer Basketball Final, which proved to be a true battle between All Day and Pick & Roll with leads that never exceeded an 8 point difference. Brandon Robertson of All Day racked up a quick 18 points but still found his team short of Pick & Roll at the end of the first half with a score of 32 to 31. It was in the second half, though, that Jon Kirby with 2 steals, 1 block, and 5 rebounds led his team Pick & Roll. With a constant back and forth contest, All Day took a time out at the 5 minute mark with the score tied at 56. Coming out of the break with a Pick & Roll layup to go up by 2, Brodie Perez of All Day made a clutch 3 pointer with 4:15 left in the game to take a 1 point lead. However, Quang Priam promptly matched that 3 to regain the lead for Pick and Roll, 61-59. But Brandon Robertson wasn’t going down without a fight, and had a crowd pleasing dunk to keep All Day in the game and his team energized. In the end, that would be All Day's last bucket and Pick and Roll pulled away to win 65-61. BASKETBALL BRACKETS RELEASED The 2009 Summer Basketball brackets have now been released.
