GARFIELD & FRIENDS COME BACK FROM BEHIND TO
BEAT RUN N GUN IN REC FINAL The Summer 5 on 5 Basketball Rec Finals were played Monday, July 21 at 7:00 PM on the RWC Court 1 with Run N Gun trying to upset undefeated Garfield & Friends. Run N Gun came out strong in the first half taking a commanding lead over Garfield & Friends. Run N Gun led the entire first half with the largest lead coming at the 1:51 mark with a score of 31-18 before Garfield & Friends pulled within ten points to make the half time score 31-21. The second half proved the Garfield & Friends were too much for Run N Gun to handle. Garfield & Friends came out ready in the second half scoring eight unanswered points to bring the game within two. From that point on it was a close game until the final buzzer. At the 9:00 mark in the second half, Garfield & Friends tied the game at 41 before taking their first and final lead of the game at 8:05. Run N Gun fought hard until the end, but Garfield & Friends prevailed despite a rocky first half to remain undefeated at 10-0 and become the rec champions. 12345 UPSET THE INCREDIBLES IN COMP NAIL BITER The Summer 5 on 5 Basketball Comp Finals were played Monday, July 21 at 8:00 PM on the RWC Court 1 with 12345 trying to upset undefeated Incredibles to take the intramural championship title. The Incredibles came out strong within the first few minutes of the first half taking a quick 10-2 lead at the 15:44 mark. That didn't last long as 12345 battled back to make the game a close contest until the very end. The Incredibles led the entire first half by no more than eight points going into half time leading by one point with a score of 32-31.
It wasn't
until the second half when 12345 started to give the Incredibles a run for
their money. The Incredibles led until the 15:32 mark in the second half
when 12345 took their first lead of the game making the score 40-38. From
that point on there were seven lead changes until the 1:04 mark when 12345
took their final lead of the game with a score of 55-54. 12345 then hit
three free throws putting them up by four with 22 seconds remaining in the
game. The Incredibles did not give up, sinking two free throws, Ricardo
Catala brought the Incredibles within two with 18 seconds showing on the
game clock. After 12345 missed two free throws, the Incredibles had a chance
to tie the game but missed the last second shot to secure the victory for
12345.
